Dersin Amacı

This course aims to equip students with the conceptual knowledge and practical skills required to prepare, analyse and critically evaluate sustainability-related financial disclosures in line with IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 and their Turkish equivalents, TSRS 1 and TSRS 2. Following the structure of the IFRS Foundation’s Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Level I curriculum, the course covers six areas:

  • why investors and other stakeholders demand sustainability information;
  • how materiality is defined across reporting regimes;
  • the architecture of the sustainability information ecosystem;
  • the core content and conceptual foundations of the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, including industry-based guidance (SASB Standards and SICS);
  • how companies and investors use this information in practice;
  • the role of governance, internal controls and assurance.

By the end of the course, students are expected to apply the four-pillar disclosure structure (governance, strategy, risk management, metrics and targets) to real corporate reports and to assess their compliance, decision-usefulness and limitations.

Ders Notu

Weekly lecture notes and readings are prepared by the instructor and shared through the university’s learning management system. No single textbook is assigned. The notes follow the FSA Level I curriculum structure and draw on the official texts of IFRS S1, IFRS S2, TSRS 1 and TSRS 2, the relevant SASB Standards and the readings listed under Course Resources. Students are expected to read the assigned standard paragraphs before each session.

For group presentations, each group analyses the English-language, ISSB/TSRS-aligned sustainability report of one company for FY2024 against the four disclosure pillars. Year-to-year comparisons are not required.
