| Course Objective | The aim of this course is to develop students’ theoretical knowledge of ceramic bodies and engobes by following current ceramic technologies and to train individuals who are able to transfer this knowledge into practical applications. It is intended that students gain the ability to analyze the chemical and physical properties of ceramic materials, develop different formulations, and conduct experimental studies to produce original surface and form applications. Furthermore, in line with a research-based approach, the course aims to enhance students’ skills in literature review, material analysis, and technical evaluation, enabling them to adapt to contemporary ceramic production processes |
| Course Content | Within the scope of this course, theoretical and practical studies are conducted on the development of original ceramic body and engobe formulations. The developed recipes are evaluated in terms of material composition through Seger formula calculations, batch calculations, and chemical analyses. During the course process, methods for measuring, preparing, and analyzing ceramic bodies are applied, and the performance of the formulations is tested based on the obtained results. In addition, control of body systems, quality evaluation, and suitability analyses are carried out, and different surface and body properties are examined. Furthermore, students are encouraged to follow current scientific literature, report their findings in accordance with academic writing standards, and present their work in the format of a scientific article. In this context, the evaluation of experimental studies in a manner that contributes to the literature and the scientific analysis of original formulations and application results are targeted.
