Course Objective This course aims to provide a historical analysis of the Turkey´s foreign policy since the establishment the Republic, to examine Turkish foreign policy since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey in a period of historical study and to investigate internal and external dynamics affecting Turkish foreign policy and the process of formation and implementation of Turkish foreign policy.
Course Content Firstly, Turkish Foreign Policy during Independence War, Lausanne Peace Treaty and theoretical framework of Turkish foreign policy in the Republican era will be examined. Secondly, the main objectives and periods of foreign policy in the interwar period of World War II, new trends in Turkish foreign policy during the Cold War, relations with the U.S., NATO and AET and Cyprus Issue will be examined. Thirdly, foreign policy relations with the U.S. and the EU, the Middle East, the Balkans, the Foreign Policy after the Cold War, new opportunities and threats of the current problems in this period will be examined.
