Course Objective

The aim of this course is to comprehend the basic concepts and facts about the Earth.

Course Content

Definition and subject of geology. General information about the Earth: Shape and dimensions of the Earth's sphere. Movements of the Earth. Geosphere of the Earth. Geothermal gradient. Gravitation and izostazi. The Earth’s minerals. Definition of mineral, mineral properties. Description and general properties of The Earth’s rocks. The rock cycle, igneous rock composition and classification. Metamorphism. Origin and composition of metamorphic rocks. Sedimentary rocks’ features. Products of weathering. Soil forming. The soil types. Tectonics movements. Internal forces. Orogenic and epirogenic movements. Faults. Earthquakes. Plate tectonics theory. Volcanism. General principals of stratigrafy. The Earth’s age. Geologic Times; Weather events, climate, winds and formation of seasons.
