Course Objective To introduce fundamental theories of cultural studies
Course Content This course is designed to introduce the students to cultural studies, its major theories, issues and debates. It begins with a short history of cultural studies. It then goes through basic theories and methods such as semiology, ethnography, cultural history, critical theory and psychoanalysis and visits important debates and issues such as texts vs. audiences/readers, hegemony vs. resistance, cultural reproduction and cultural change, gender, race, class and subcultures
