Course Objective | Optical networks, the de facto communication technology future, have been rapidly emerging. The design and the operation of the optical networks that reached even to our homes are quite different than current pyhsical networks. These networks, which reach Tbps bandwidth rates with wavelength-division multiplexing, have to be designed optimally. This course aims to give student the ability to know techniques to optimally design optical networks. (However these techniques can be used for other networks as well). |
Course Content | Introduction to optical networks, basic components of optical networks, principles of optical networks, optical network hierarchy, optimization with integer linear programming (ILP), optimization application based on known problems, optical backbone networks and their design with ILP, protection and restoration methods and their application to optical backbone networks, availability analysis, availability-aware network design, optical metro networks and their design with ILP, optical access network and their design with ILP. |
