Course Objective To make learn basic knowledges about main characteristics and sources, important representatives and their works of sufism and Turkish Sufism literature.
Course Content Definition of sufism, main characteristics; various sufism theories and chiefly sufism terms; chiefly typecs and forms of Turkish Sufism Literature; historical development, first Turkish sufis and their works, beginning of Turkish Sufism Literature in Anatolia and and it’s famous personages according to centuries and examples that are choosen from their works.

Week Course Topics Preliminary Preparation
1 Definition, sources, characteristics, subject and aim of sufism. The article "tasavvuf" from İslam Ansiklopedisi(TDV) will be read.
2 Chiefly sufism terms (İlâhi aşk, cezbe, vahdet-i vücûd, insân-ı kâmil, fenâ’, seyr ü süluk, tarikat, silsile, pîr, mürid, derviş, âdâb ve erkân ect.) Prestudy about chiefly terms of sufism from sufism dictionaries will be done and searched.
3 Genesis of Turkish Sufism Literature and it’s historical development, sufism understanding of Turkish sufis. Related section From Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Güzel´s "Dini-Tasavvufi Türk Edebiyatı" will be read.
4 Chiefly literary types and forms of Turkish Sufism Literature. Related section From Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Güzel´s "Dini-Tasavvufi Türk Edebiyatı" will be read.
5 Ahmed Yesevi and examples from his Divan-ı Hikmet Ahmed Yeseví’s life and sample texts from his Divan-ı Hikmet will be read.
6 Mevlânâ and examples from his Mesnevi Mevlânâ´s life and sample texts from his Mesnevi will be read.
7 Hacı Bektâş-ı Veli and examples from his Makâlât Hacı Bektâş-ı Veli´s life and sample texts from his Makâlât will be read.
8 Yunus Emre and examples from his poems. Yunus Emre´s life and sample texts from his Divan will be read.
9 Visa exam
10 Kaygusuz Abdal, Hacı Bayram Veli and examples from their poems. Kaygusuz Abdal and Hacı Bayram-ı Veli´s lives and sample texts from their poems will be read.
11 Eşrefoğlu Rûmi and examples from his poems. Eşrefoğlu Rûmi´s life and sample texts from his poems will be read.
