Course Category
Course Objective To introduce poems of sultans, şehzades and women sultans who wrote divan and divançe in Ottoman dynastic to new generation.
Course Content Art and government relation in Ottoman; importance of literature in madrasah education; poetry-society relation; occupation of sultans and şehzades with poetry, their overview to other poets; poetry texts of sultan and şehzade poets; Avni (Fatih Sultan Mehmed) and values given in poetry in 15th century; poems of Selimi (Yavuz Sultan Selim) and Muhibbi (Kanuni Sultan Süleyman).

Week Course Topics Preliminary Preparation
1 Political and literary appearence of Ottoman State.
2 Government-art relation in Ottoman and members of Ottoman dynastic who wrote poem.
3 The first period Ottoman sultans who wrote poem untill II Murad.
4 Sultan II Murad who wrote poems with “Muradi” pen name and his period.
5 Fatih Sultan Mehmed who wrote poems with “Avni” pen name and his period.
6 Cem Sultan who was towering of şehzade poets. Samples from Cem Sultan´s poms will be research an read.
7 Sultan II Bayezid who wrote poems with “Adli” pen name and his period. Having informations about Sultan II.Bayezid and his period, samples from his poems which were written with “Adlî” pen name will be read.
8 Yavuz Sultan Selim who wrote poems with “Selimi” pen name and Şah İsmail who wrote poems with “Hatai” pen name and 16th century.
9 Visa exam
10 Kanuni Sultan Süleyman who wrote poems with “Muhibbi” pen name and importance given to poetry in 16th century.
11 The other sultans and şehzades who wrote poem in 16th century. Related sections from "Sultan Şairler" which were prepared by Mustafa İsen ve A. Fuat Bilkan will be read.
12 Seminar presentation. Seminar subject will be researched.
13 Sultan and şehzade poets who wrote poem in 17th century. Related sections from "Sultan Şairler" which were prepared by Mustafa İsen ve A. Fuat Bilkan will be read.
14 Sultan and şehzade poets who wrote poem in 18th and 19th century.
