In this course basic grammar, syntax and vocabulary of Latin is taught. The aim of the course is to prepare students to read the original texts in Latin and to give them a deeper insight into the Roman way of thinking and life by the exercises and the readings chosen and adapted for this aim

1 An introduction to Latin language and its history. Alphabet, pronunciation, syllables, accent
2 Inflected and uninflected words. First declension. Third conjugation: present indicative active, exercises
3 Subject-predicate. Negative. Direct questions. Genitive of possession. Particles and prepositions
4 Second declension. Third conjugation: imperfect indicative active. Dative of poss. Exercises
5 Irregular declensions. Personal pronouns. The future tense (act. ind.). Imperative. Exercises
6 Particular conditions. Adjectives and uses of them. Coniugation of "sum" (present, future, imperfect)
7 Rules of gender. Interrogative pronouns. Second declension (stems in -er). Exercises and Reading
10 Coniugation of "sum" (pf., pl.-q.-pf. fut. pf.). Causal clauses: "quod". Compound verbs. Temporal acc.
11 Formation of the perfect stems; coniugation (pf., pl.-q.-pf. fut. pf.). Demonstrative pronoun: "is"
12 Temporal clauses: "postquam". Reflexive pronouns. Temporal abl. Fourth declination. Exercises
13 Coniugation and uses of subjunctive (present and perfect stems). Exercises and reading
