The historical perspective of mechanical engineering, fields of mechanical engineering, the relationships with other disciplines of engineering. Sub areas, engineering design, materials, mechanics and thermodynamics. New technologies and the recent trends in mechanical engineering The principal applications of mechanical engineering. Engineering ethics, innovation and contributions of mechanical engineers to society. Technical and legal responsibilities of Mechanical Engineering. Technical and legal responsibilities of an engineer. The analysis of judiciary outcomes of engineering solutions by means of labor law and labor safety. Engineering companies. Engineering and industrial application examples with trips to various factories.

2 Machines and energy. Dimensions, units and error.
3 Unit analysis, conversion of units and related applications.
4 Description of the topics of dimensioning and control. Introducing the measurement tools.
5 Introducing of calipers, micrometer and comparator as dimension measurement tools and gauge stick as a checking tool. Applications of measure reading by using caliper and micrometer.
6 Fastening elements, welded joints, solder joints, bonding joints, bolt joints.
7 Mid-Term Exam
8 Explaining how to have the professional and ethic responsibilities.
9 Introducing the national and gloabal standards and quality institutions. Description of Standard and quality concepts.
