ELT306 aims to harmonize theory with practice through a close analysis of the excerpts from the literary texts in light of the theoretical information. ıt aims to raise competent English language teachers who can exploit different genres for language teaching purposes.

 ELT306 is a continuation of ELT305. It builds upon the introductory knowledge acquired in the previous course. So far, we have covered the preliminary terms, approaches to the integration of literature into ESL/EFL contexts, the close link between stylistics and practical literary criticism, and the characteristic features of the so-called literary language. This term we will initially review the set of criteria to select and evaluate literary texts for classroom use. Then, we will discuss the role of culture based on some real examples and the ways to deal with cultural problems. Lastly, four genres will be explained in terms of possible forms of classroom use and illustrated with many excerpts from different literary pieces. On the contrary to ELT305, ELT306 will focus much more on the practice, that is, we will discuss how poetry, short stories, novels, and drama could be utilized for teaching language to diverse groups of learners with specific references to actual lesson plans and classroom implementations.
