Course Objective

The course will help you better understand why the Kurds will address new challenges facing the Kurds in the Middlle East regional conflicts and why they feel alienation in the Middle East. The course intends to find the best means to incorporate them in the peace and development of the countries they live in.

Course Content

The course will begin by a short survey of Kurdish history in the 20th century. There are several challenges facing the Kurds. The foremost of which is the options they have  for future :independence or living within the existing states in a decentralized regimes. The intra-Kurdish conflict and how this will shape their future. The other serious challenges will be the emerging crisis of identity; traditionalism versus modernism. Finally, the economic  challenges which are facing the KRG will be discussed and  how Turkish -Iranian  in rivalry affects the region.

t     We will close by examining their potential role for peace and war in processes in the region, particularly in regional water conflicts and democratization process in the countries with Kurdish minorities
