Course Category
Course Objective To ensure to understand whether Classical Turkish literature that always accepted poetry literature, didn’t consist of just poem. To ensure to understand that firstly teszkires, like seyahatnȃme, etc. Literary types and subjects have an important place in this literature. Also, to emphasize the importance of prose in our classical culture through the examples of history, dictionary and divan prefaces which were written in a prose style.
Course Content To review the proses which were written since the beginning of the 16. century; to discuss the characteristics of the language of the period; the influence of Arabic and Persian on Turkish; to analyse the words and concepts taken from Arabic and Persian; to read selected texts from works, such as Tevarih-i Al-i Osman, Seyahatname,Tezkire, ,Sefaretname, etc. which were written from beginning of the 16. century to the end of 19. century; to introduce the important works of its time and the following periods; the change of prose acording to the centuries.

1 The Ottoman prose in 16th century. Related subject from the lesson source book of "Eski Türk Edebiyatı Tarihi" will be read.
2 Şuara tezkires and to read texts from 16th century şuara tezkires.
3 Meşairüş-şuara of Asık Çelebi and selected texts.
4 Evliya Çelebi and his Seyahatname.
5 Selected texts from Seyahatname.
6 The Ottoman prose in 17th century and selected texts from Risales of Koçi Bey.
7 Şuara tezkires in 17th century and selected texts from this tezkires.
8 The Ottoman prose in 18th century and selected texts from Naima Tarihi.
9 Visa exam
10 The Ottoman prose in 19th century and selected texts from Fatin Efendi Tezkiresi.
11 Selected texts from şuara tezkires that was written in 19th century.
12 Seminar presentation.
13 Turkish divan prefaces and their places in Ottaman prose. Related subject from the book of Tahir Üzgör´s "Türkçe Divan Dibaceleri" will be read.
14 Review. Previous subject will be repeated.
