Course Objective Teaching of Turkish alphabets or grasping of writing systems from beginning until 21th century. The students learn the writing systems of historical and contemporary Turkish writing systems.
Course Content Orkhon writing systems, old Uighur alphabet, Arabic-based Ottoman Turkish alphabet (manuscript and printed), Slavic-based Cyrillic alphabet (similarities and differences of writing systems of used by Turkish communities), Latin-based Turkish alphabet from Codex Cumanicus to 21th century

Week Course Topics Preliminary Preparation
1 Sound, letter, writing, alphabet, writing system, ligature and so on terms. Historical development of Turkish language and alphabets used in this process. The reason for changes of alphabet. Discussion of the suitability of this alphabets for Turkish Front about the terms that are related to post information to be acquired.
2 Vowels and consonants system of Orkhon writing. Reading study on the texts with written by Orkhon alphabet (the Orkhon Inscriptions et al.). Preliminary work Kokturk writing about the system.
3 Reading and writing studies on the Orkhon Inscriptions. Bring sample texts.
4 Introduction to the old Uighur alphabet and reading passages from texts written in the alphabet. Preliminary work about Uyghur writing system.
5 Reading and writing studies on the texts of Uighur Bring sample texts.
6 Reminding of the Ottoman Turkish alphabet, reading and writing on printed texts written in the alphabet. To learn more about Ottoman Turkish writing system.
