Dersin Amacı
Examining the modernization period which started XVII. Century and continued during in Tulip Period, Mahmud I., Mustafa III., Abdülhamid I., Selim III., Mustafa IV. and Mahmud II reigns. In addition showing the reform policies in period of those sultans and examining the external and internal obstacles in front of modernization movements during Tanzimat, first and second Constitution.

The structure of Ottoman society and its feature, the developments in Europe and Ottoman Empire, the first reform movements, the first reform documents, external and internal obstacles against the reform policies, the modernization movements in Tulip Period and the reign of Selim III. and Mahmut II. The efforts for reconstruction of Ottoman Empire; Tanzimat Edict. The legal features of Edict and analysis of it. The codification efforts in the Tanzimat period. Tanzimat Edict and Europe, Islahat Edict, the reaction against Tanzimat and the foundation of political parties. The movements of Young Turks and their pronunciation. The passing of Constitutional period. The modernization movements from Monarchy period to Republican period.
