Dersin Amacı

Many problems seen in engineering applications may contain cracks or fracture phenomenon. The purpose of this course is, by performing fracture mechanics analyses/calculations of structures with cracks, to determine fail/safe conditions and to be able to predict the life the structure or part, if there are fatigue loads acting. For this purpose, some modeling analyses activities are involved within the scope of the course.

Introduction, Historical development of Fracrure Mechanics.Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics (LEFM). Stress concentration and singularity. Stress distributions for elastic cracks and Stress Intensity Factors (K). Crack growth and criteria for unstable fracture. Experimental methods for LEFM. Fatigue crack growth. Numerical Methods: singular elements, J-Integral, Modeling and analysis applications for fracture and crack growth.
