Dersin Amacı | The purpose of this course is to provide knowledge to undergraduate students as follows: from the point of the political, the economic and the cultural fields of geography, but the emphasis will remain upon social issues affecting people’s life, class, race/ethnicity, gender, poverty, the body, health and well-being. This course explains and focuses on, the role of space in the creation of social inequality with particular emphasis on the Turkish context in places as well. |
Dersin İçeriği | Generally, ‘Social Geography’ can be defined as a geographical investigation of the relationships between spatial change and social processes. Space and Place is primarily concerned with the ways in social relations, identities and inequalities are created. How these creations vary over space and the role of space in their construction is the principle distinction between sociology and social geography. Sociology emphasizes society, but geographers emphasize space: in social geography we are concerned with society and space. |
