Dersin Amacı

Students who are taking this course will be able to obtain academic information mostly by listening, to guess the meaning of words based on various structures used in the sentence, to solve the differential effect of the stress and intonation, and the words and phrases used in conversation on the meaning, to take notes from a conversation they listened to, to paraphrase the sentences, and to find the main idea. Students will be able to improve note-taking strategies while listening, the use of abbreviations and symbols to take notes, and taking organized and comprehensible notes.

Dersin İçeriği

In this course, it is aimed to enable students to gain higher level listening skills such as understanding different perspectives, guessing sentence interconnections and the gist of speech, reaching the main idea, and being able to use semantic clues among sentences by watching and listening to audio and video recordings registered in real classroom environments. Another aim of the course is to equip learners with the habit of listening to lectures. With the help of the listening materials used in this course, students will be able to become familiar with different pronunciations of English. There will be exercises aiming to enable students to comprehend the differences in the pronunciation of English words in different dialects and accents. There will be exercises aiming to highlight how meaning differences in sentences can be given with the help of differences in the stress of words and sentences, and how these meaning differences can be comprehended.
