It aims to develop the skills necessary for the student teachers to write their thoughts and discussions on which they will present their ideas and opinions on current issues and to express their thoughts effectively in front of a community. All the necessary steps (including the development and use of audio and visual materials) of the preparation and presentation of a text are touched upon. Student teachers will prepare presentations based on extensive reading and research and present them in the classroom. Examples of successful presentations will be examined in terms of content, form and appropriateness of audiovisual elements. They are expected to develop oral and written communication skills that they will use in work environments such as interviewing, socializing, phone calls, making presentations, managing meetings, and writing resumes and applications.

At the end of the course, the students will be able

To develop an understanding of basic principles and techniques of public speaking

To develop strategies to manage speech anxiety

To improve skills in researching, analyzing, organizing, outlining, and delivering speeches appropriate to a particular audience

To improve the effective use of voice and body

To present a variety of speeches

This course will give teacher candidates the opportunity to be an effective speaker. It aims to develop their skills in preparing and delivering speeches. Managing their speech anxiety, analyzing their audience and selecting a topic and a purpose accordingly, creating a good content, organizing their speech carefully and delivering it effectively, confident use of voice and body are among the skills to be mastered in this course. While pre-service English language teachers are going to be provided with theoretical foundations of public speaking, this is a practice-oriented course. It will equip them with basic principles and theories of public speaking and give a chance to practice these skills in three types of speeches.
