Course Objective

Students will recognize the debated contemporary problems related to hadith, history of hadith and methodology of hadith, and to provide solutions to these problems.

Course Content

In this course, old and new definitions of sunnah and hadith, place and importance of sunnah in Islam, opposition to sunnah and hadith from the early period to the modern times, the criticisms directed to the hadith and their answers, the other problems related to hadith are studied and debated.

1 Meaning of the sunnah and hadith.

7 The answers to the oppositions directed to the sunnah.

9 The general evaluations about the oppositions.
10 The criticisms of the basic hadith sources.
11 The criticisms of companions of the Prophet (sahaba).
12 The criticisms of narration of hadith: Narration by meaning (riwayah bi’l-ma’na).

8 S/he uses the information obtained from Religious education history, religious and modern training methods in the field of religious education. X
9 S/he is able to evaluate Religion and religious issues philosophically, sociologically and psychologically. X
10 S/he has knowledge about non-Muslim religions at the level of comparing.
11 S/he is able to evaluate issues related to the Islamic history, civilization and science with a critical point of view. X

13 S/he takes in consideration scientific, cultural and ethical values in interdisciplinary research and studies in the field of Religious Studies. X
