Dersin Amacı | The United States is a critical actor to understand the international relations of the Middle East. Both as the sole superpower globally and a major actor involved in the region, the foreign policy of the United States influences the dynamics of Middle Eastern politics to a great extent. This course will examine the developments in the Middle East from the perspective of United States foreign policy imperatives. |
Dersin İçeriği | In order to understand the US approach towards the region, the class will start with a general introduction to American foreign policy. On that basis, the class will familiarize students with the history of US involvement in the Middle East since the onset of the Cold War, looking closely at such major issues as the Arab-Israeli conflict, Gulf War, natural resources, war on terror, or 2003 Iraq war.
