Course Objective | The learning objective of this course is to provide in-depth knowledge to students seeking to specialize in the foreign policy of the United States that has shaped the contemporary international politics. |
Course Content | The course examines several topics relevant to American foreign policy - American foreign policy tradition; - continuity and change in foreign policy; - emergence of the United States in world politics; - the compatibility of the post-World War II interventionist American foreign policy with the isolationist Monroe doctrine; - the making of presidential doctrines on foreign policy; - the influence of the Congress, interest groups, public opinion, foreign policy bureaucracy, president and other actors in the making of American foreign policy; - the influence of post-Cold War developments on American foreign policy; - the American position on the debates concerning the emergence of a new international system; - the effect of the post-9/11 developmentw on America´s role in the world, with special reference to growing American interventionism. |
