| Dersin Amacı | This course is an introduction to the critical examination and analysis of geopolitics of the Middle East. It focuses particularly on the international and cross-national perspectives of political geography and critical geopolitics. It deals with political, economic, cultural and social aspects of the Middle East from a geographical perspective and examines societies in transition in the post Cold War and 9-11 world. As such, the course has an integrative character and requires basic knowledge about international affairs of the Middle East. It aims to analysis discursive construction of the Middle East in the world politics during the 21th century. |
| Dersin İçeriği | The course begins with a short review of “critical geopolitics” particularly as the field developed in the West before and after the Cold War. Then it examines the main political, cultural, societal developments in Middle East. After the midterm, the course turns to a comprehensive framework for understanding contemporary global economic and political changes, and it then use this theory to understand contemporary changes in the Middle East. In the second part of the course, the political, cultural, economical and societal events and processes occurred in the history of the modern Middle East will be analyzed with reference to the phenomenons such as identity, difference, hegemony, discourse, territoriality, state, space, power, globalization, regionalism and terror. |
