Dersin Amacı

This course is a very important subject in earth sciences, because fossil energy sources of the world such as coal, petroleum, and natural gas and the source of nuclear energy (uranium and thorium deposits) are contained in sedimentary rock formations. Since over 80% of the geophysicists worldwide are employed in the oil industry, they have to know about sedimentary rocks.

Dersin İçeriği

Sedimentary rock types and sedimentary cycle, rock weathering, sediment transport, sedimentation, diagenesis, siliclastik and carbonate rocks, Paleontology, Index fossils, biostratigraphy, geological time table, depositional environments, unconformities, lithostratigraphy, stratigraphic correlation, seismic stratigraphy, well-logging, origin of coal, petroleum, and natural gas, oil and natural gas traps, sedimentary basin analysis
